Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of our healthcare organization. This role is heavily focused on core accounting tasks, including billing, cash application, enrollment verification, revenue reconciliation and related reporting. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles, strong Excel skills, and a passion for working in the healthcare industry.

Schedule:

First shift hybrid, full-time hours. Specific work hours will be established in consultation with your supervisor.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post billing - Medicare, Medicaid and Private Pay
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly enrollment reconciliations including Medicare and Medicaid across multiple states
  • Maintain and update accurate financial records for the PACE program, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Review and reconcile cash postings and cash application transactions against payers and accounts receivable
  • Ensure proper posting of adjustments and bad debt
  • Support revenue cycle functions as needed
  • Maintain and analyze financial records and reports.
  • Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Adhere to internal controls and participate in the development of accounting process improvements and documentation.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance accounting workflows, financial controls, and system implementations.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be reliable and extremely trustworthy.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related programs.
  • Must be able to learn other accounting software systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required
  • Internship or up to one year of relevant accounting experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required, familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Multiview) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
